Tell me not ,  in mournful numbersمگو مرا در شعری غم انگیز                                  

Life is not but an empty dream!زندگی چیزی نیست جز وهمی خیال انگیز!                         

For the soul is dead that slumbers,   آنان را که همواره خفته اند مرده بپندار

And things are not what they seem . زندگی فراتر است از آنچه که می آید به،  پندار .             

Life is real !  life is earnest!زندگی رویا نیست ،جاری شدن است                                       

And the grave is not its goal; گور نیسست پایان حیات                                                

Dust thou art, to dust returrnest,از خاکی و باز خواهی گشت به خاک                            

Was not spoken of the soul.حرفی از رفتن روح نیست به خاک .                                    

Not enjoyment , and  not sorrow,نه لذت مطلق ، نه غم است                                      

     Is our destined end  or way;پایان راه و سرنوشت ما .                                          

  But to act, that each to-morrow باید کاری کرد که فرداها                                        

 Find us farther than to-day.بهتر از امروز بیابند ما را .                                           

Art is long , and time is fleeting ,زیستن را هنر است ،که زمان در گذر است                                            

And our hearts  , though stout and brave , و قلب هامان بی باک                                                      

Still , like muffled drums, are beatingچون طبل هایی پر از خالی                                                    

Funeral marches to the grave.با هر ضربان نزدیکتر به مرگ جسمانی.
